Planning can often feel useless. John Lennon said, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”. That is true. While we can make plans all we want, we don’t know what is going to happen in the future. That means we have to flexible. We must be able to bend when it comes to our expectations. Flexibility helps us to interpret what is happening around us. Just because something doesn’t go as we think it should, that doesn’t mean it is a failure.
Are these unforseen developments in our plans an opportunity in disguise? How do we manage the expectations of others around us. Planning a weekly newsletter can feel daunting, how do we know what will resonate with our audience? We don’t, but we can listen, watch and learn. Listening is important. This will guide us in our understanding, and allow us to see what how to adjust our coarse. Communication is not a straight line. It is an adjustable way to reach those around us. It this fluidity that we must understand.
So if life is what happens while you are busy making other plans, get out there, get busy and see what happens. Listen, observe and respond accordingly. Don’t worry if the results of your last post, mail out or Tweet are not what you expected. Just listen and learn and adjust. Learning turns everything into an opportunity. Just live and learn!
