20 Followers = 20K

Can a Facebook page with 20 followers, make a sale of $20k? This one did.
 
How you ask? We invested in interactive business storytelling on Facebook Live. The client is a postproduction house in Melbourne. The Australian film industry is small, the challenge was to find people who make movies and speak to them.
Our primary audience was tiny and we knew them well. We were able to provide our followers with stories and information that we knew they would find interesting. Because the content was welcomed, we were able to create the mutually beneficial conversations. That is the power of going live. It replaces ‘what does the data say’ with ‘what does the audience say’.
 
The strategy was to produce a series of Facebook Live sessions every two weeks. Each session featured industry professionals such as scriptwriters, editors, audio engineers, film colourists.
 
Before each broadcast, a promo post notified the small Facebook community of the next date for the live stream. One of these teasers was re-posted seven times. A person who had worked with this staff member in the past saw the post and this resulted in a job worth 20k.
 
This all happened before we went live!
 
The live stream was shared with various industry related Facebook groups. People in the groups asked questions, gave feedback and even suggested topics for upcoming Facebook Live sessions.
 
Target your communication. Know who you would like to talk to, know where to find them and then have conversations. 
 
Engagement = sales!

Twitter Fundamental No. 6, Tell Your Story Like No One Else Can

I had a wonderful lunch this week with a woman who wants to start her own business. In the course of the afternoon we fearlessly tackled the big questions of life, love, death and new beginnings. This exploration was meant to help her understand how to approach the beginning of her business. In the end the simplest answer was the best and that is, start at the beginning.

Start writing your story. Start at the beginning. Your business is your story. When was the first time you sold something to someone else? Why did you do it? What has changed between the first business venture and why you are doing it now?

Learn to love and believe in your own story. We all have something to say. It is true that no one knows exactly what you know and no one can say it exactly the way you can.  Your view is uniquely yours.

Your identification with your own business will help others identify with you. People like doing business with people. And not just any people, good people, people like them. So get out there and let everyone know what kind of person you are.

Start at the beginning when telling your story online. Write it all down and then break it up into bite-sized pieces for the world to consume. Be it on Twitter, Facebook or your blog.

Twitter Fundamental No. 1, Slow and Steady

The official launch of Spendlove and Lamb’s website was Valentines Day. That wasn’t an accident. I chose to promote Spendlove and Lamb on Valentines for a reason. We seek love and, once it is found, focus on it’s cultivation and growth. It is important, it is part of my business name. That is no mistake, I am calculating.

I not only calculate, but multiply the amount of love in my life. I understand how important support networks are. Strong networks translate into strong people, businesses and communities.

How do you take a strong network from the realm of an idea and put it into practice? A solid digital strategy will support you in your ability to do what you uniquely do!

My motto with relationship building is slow and steady wins the race. You don’t want to go from the first date to the wedding in a week. Strong relationships are built slowly over time. A carefully procured, organically grown community is the best way to attract your kind of people.

It is possible to pay for love, purchase ‘likes’ or ‘followers’. However, this is a relationship based on false pretenses. An ideal foundation is built on love and respect. Relationships are genuine interactions; it is not a popularity contest. This is my primary foundation belief of community building, is not a whirlwind romance. It is a slowly progressing process of discovery, common interests and goals.
